Kashmir PK-12 School Master Plan

Phase One of the design process for the Shanti Schools/Guru Foundation School encompasses research, programming, and preliminary schematic design for a school near Sopore, Kashmir, India. The facility will serve students in primary school through high school and will stand as an example of contemporary sustainable design and construction as well as a model of 21st century education practices. Our research has revealed regional opportunities and constraints regarding local construction trades, building practices, climate, and culture. Based on that research—and on feedback from all parties involved—we have developed a program that supports a phased construction of the school, 21st century education practices, and possible community integration with the school. Finally, we created several diagrams to illustrate how the site might physically accommodate the program.
